13 Things We Should Know About: Jed Gregorio
1 I'm a stylist and writer. Most of my styling work can be found regularly in Candy magazine. I've also written for FHM, Garage, Rogue, and Preview.
2 I just turned 23 last July!
3 I'm the only guy in our editorial team. Ironically, I work on our fashion and beauty sections.
4 One of my earliest memories of being hooked to fashion was seeing John Galliano's Egyptian-themed couture collection for Dior, on Fashion TV. That was way back in 2004!
5 Other memorable shows that I saw on TV—and I guess you could say are life-changing ones that sealed my obsessive love for fashion at a young age—include the 1999 McQueen show with the spray-painted dress, and the 2007 one when a ghostly Kate Moss appeared inside a glass pyramid. I think it was in Elle when I last read something about this 'lost age' of theatricality in fashion. It's awesome how Marc Jacobs and Karl Lagerfeld are doing similar, grand-scale shows for Vuitton and Chanel. I'd love to be able to witness one personally, even just standing at the very back row. Haha!
6 I often marvel at stylists who can produce these dark, gritty editorials; sometimes with 20 things piled on the model, and it looks more like a sculpture than clothes. Somehow I can never bring myself to think that way. I guess I have a bit of a light-hearted, old-fashioned taste for editorials.
7 Inspiration for shoots literally come from everywhere. The last beauty editorial I worked on, which will come out in November, was initially inspired by a Fenton bib necklace, which Dana Lorenz created around the time she was competing for the CFDA/Vogue trophy. Just the inherent character of that necklace brought to mind a girl with a specific beauty look.
8 Back in college, apart from my major in Communication, I also took extra electives in French and Theology.
9 Also back in college, for a class, I wrote a 200-page book called "The Prayer of the Bones". It's written in diary form, taking place two weeks in the hero's life, from a week before Christmas to the New Year. I don't anymore have a copy of it now, but I'd like to re-read what I wrote and remember how I actually sustained writing that!
10 I think at heart I'm a hude nerd and loner. I wish I were more naturally extroverted, but sadly, I'm not! 😞
11 I speak a tiny bit of French and Korean. If you can speak them too and when you see me, please talk to me so I can practice. Haha!
12 I hope everyone who gets to read this will go check out a copy of Candy's August issue! I worked on a fashion ed called "Countryside Idol" that we shot at an organic farm. Prepare to see cute clothes, greenhouses, and rows and rows of lettuce.
13 As I type this I'm watching Saturday Night Live Korea. Hahaha! 😃
Thank You so much Jed for sharing!
